About me

I grew up in the west of Ireland, surrounded by the sea and the Burren mountains. As a youngster swimming in the sea, being outside a lot, exploring the beautiful Burren ,cycling or just playing about in the local fields was something taken for granted. A love for nature is ingrained in my psyche.

I knew I always wanted to go to Art school but never thought about art as a career, it was just something I had to do.

It was a place to explore and experiment in, and  it provided me with the space and time to grow as a person.

My path towards being a painter was many faceted and certainly didn’t take a straight line…it was only after many years that I finally made the decision to commit to painting.

I moved to the Scottish Borders 30 plus years ago. The Borders, Scotland and Northumberland, proved to be fruitful in terms of subject matter and a few years after my MA in Fine Art , I started to paint in earnest…it’s been a long road!

In 2022 after many years teaching part time in Art and Design and working as an artist, I decided to take the plunge and move to pastures new….Brittany, France.

Painting is now my main focus. I have always responded to my surrounding.....whether it's a long held connection to a known place or a fleeting visit to somewhere new. These places  provide exciting and interesting stimuli which overtime invariably works itself into my drawings and paintings. For now,  I have a little studio in the country side near the lovely town of Huelgoat in Finistere.

To be continued….
